| County Cricket in England comprises first class matches that are played between the many counties of England, barring Glamorgan, which is a Welsh county. History of County Cricket County Cricket in England goes back way before the 1890s when the unofficial tournaments used to take place. The first tournament recorded as an official one was in 1890 and was participated by counties like Gloucestershire, Kent, Lancashire, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire, Surrey, Sussex and Yorkshire. Somerset joined the fray in 1891. Soon the competition was made tougher with the participation of teams like Derbyshire, Essex, Hampshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The County teams Eighteen County teams participate in the County Championship at present. The teams are divided into first division and second division. The last two teams of the first division are relegated to the second division, while the first two teams from second division find a passage into the among the first division teams.
