| England Team's Chances in the 2007 World Cup |
|
England Team's Chances in the 2007 World Cup don't seem to be very discouraging considering the fact that England have lifted their game greatly since the last World Cup. The 2003 World Cup was a huge disappointment for the England team with them having failed to make it past the first round.
England showed promise recently and this was specially seen in the 2005 Ashes series. Coming from behind, they caused a major upset by defeating the out and out favorites Australia to clinch the series for the first time since 1989. They followed up the good show against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, the performance of the England Cricket Team in the ODIs have been highly disappointing and they have lost several series and that too by huge margins. The very recent 5-0 loss to Sri Lanka at home and the 5-1 loss to India earlier this year were two of the lowest points in an out and out disappointing period for England.
Injuries are plaguing the side and adding to an already existing problem. Many top players like Michael Vaughan and Steve Harmison have been out of the side owing to injury. So it's left to some old members of the side and some new comers to lead the English team to World Cup success. Thus keeping all this in mind, it will not be very appropriate to consider England as a forerunner for the trophy. However, the side has immense talent and with hard work and some luck, things might just take a positive turn for the England Cricket Team.
