Ramnaresh Sarwan made a sparkling start to his international career by playing a brilliant innings of 84 not out against Pakistan in 2000 on debut. He continued to play well, but was unlucky to miss out on the centuries. He was out a number of times on scores of seventies and eighties and had to wait for 28 matches and 49 innings to score his maiden Test century. The feat came when he scored 119 against Bangladesh in 2002. He has from then on scored 8 Test centuries and 3 ODI centuries. Sarwan is a sound hitter of the ball and can go after any bowler on his day. Recently, in the series against India, he hit six fours in a Munaf Patel over, thereby asserting his defiance and aggressive batting style. Sarwan is also a very useful bowler, and interestingly he was the only bowler in the world who was not accused of a wrong bowling action after the row involving Muttiah Muralitharan scrutinized all bowlers recently.
