Full name Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara Born October 27, 1977, Matale Major teams Sri Lanka, ACC Asian XI, ICC World XI, Nondescripts Cricket Club Batting style Left-hand bat Bowling Style Right-arm offbreak
Kumar Sangakkara is currently rated the best wicketkeeper batsman in the world by the ICC. He is a key member of the Sri Lankan team. He had come to the team not as a specialist wicketkeeper but as a batsman. He worked on his keeping and gradually improved so much that was not only made the first choice wicketkeeper for Sri Lanka, but was also selected in the ICC World XI One Day team that competed against Australia in the Johnnie Walker Series in October 2005. Though the team did not perform too well, Sangakkara had a great series, averaging 46 with the bat.
He is a clean hitter of the ball and prefers to play on the off side. In July 2006, he rewrote history by making 624 in partnership with Mahela Jayawardene against South Africa. This is both a Test as well as first class record. Sangakkara's immense talent with the bat is proven with his record of four double hundreds and this is probably the reason why he is pitted as a future Sri Lankan captain.
