Graeme Pollock was arguably the greatest left handed batsmen that the world has seen, and though unfortunately his Test career was curtailed to 23 Tests, he displayed some of the best techniques of timing and placement. With an average of 60.97 (the second best after Sir Don Bradman), Graeme Pollock cemented his name as one of the greatest cricketing starts of all time. He scored prolifically against the Australians, having made two outstanding double hundreds against them. His score of 274 was a South African record for many years. Because of the apartheid in South Africa, his international career was shortened and the world missed out on watching some immense display of talent. However he continued playing domestic cricket and scored a staggering 20,940 runs in a long career that lasted till 1987.
