Navjot Singh Sidhu was a very vibrant cricketer who had a long international career that lasted from 1983 to 1999. Though he was off to an unsuccessful start in Tests, failing in the series against West Indies on debut, he worked his way back and played brilliantly in the 1987 World Cup, for which he was selected. He made four half centuries in the five matches that he played in the tournament and established himself as a quality batsman. He was specially known for his ability to play the big shots and hit boundaries. In his 51 Tests and 136 ODIs, he scored a total of 15 centuries, his 201 against the West Indies in 1996-'97 being the highlight of his career.
He retired in 1999 from all forms of the game and took up commentary. His unique way of speaking and the subtle mix of humor in his one-liners (famously called 'sidhuism') made him and his commentary immensely popular. He has moved beyond commentary and is part of various television shows nowadays. He also tried his hands at politics and has been successful there as well.
