Ever since he made his Test debut for Australia in 1993, Glenn McGrath has been the strike bowler, delivering consistently for the team over the years. He has the indomitable capacity to pick up wickets and can rip apart any batting line up, anywhere in the world. He also specializes in taking the big wickets of the opposition like those of Brian Lara and Mike Atherton. He is also a very handy batsman, and his useful contribution, specially the 61 against Zimbabwe in 2004 goes on to show how much of a complete cricketer Glenn McGrath is. By taking 7 for 15 in the 2003 World Cup, he set a new record. Owing to an ankle injury, he was forced to sit out and it seemed like his 500th wicket was a fading dream. However, being the fighter that he is, he gave up his retirement wishes and joined the squad once again and was back to his winning ways after picking up five wickets against Sri Lanka in 2004 at Darwin. His good run continued and when he turned out to play at Nagpur that year, he became the first Australian to play 100 matches. He followed it by taking 8 for 24 against Pakistan at Perth, and the figures are the second best by any Australian. He got his 500th wicket at Lords, but his subsequent injuries cost the team heavily.
