One of the most stylish and effortless players of the game today, Damien Martyn has indeed evolved from a hasty 21 year old to a composed, dependable match winner. Damien Martyn has indeed come a long way. After making his debut in 1992, Martyn lost his side in the squad after his extravagant style of batting cost him his wicket many a times. He worked his way back into the side by playing for and consequently captaining Western Australia. What was remarkable to see was him lifting his game and subsequently transforming into an old-style batsman whose first movement is back. He now plays with a high elbow, a still head, a golfer's smartness and has mastered all the shots, including the brilliant reverse-sweep. Adding to that, he is an awesome fielder. Interestingly, though he averaged at over 50, Martyn was never adjourned man of the match when he went past thirty years of age. It was only after the great run he had in 2004 when he scored 1608 runs at an average of 61, earning two man of the match awards that he got to be in the limelight that was so deserving of him. He continued his good form with centuries at home and away.

After the very disappointing 2005 Ashes series in England, Martyn finally lost his place in the side, only to be picked again for the South Africa tour. His selection was criticized, but he silenced everyone by scoring a brilliant 101 that steered his side to victory. livescore.warofcricket.com provides the profile of Damien Martyn and other cricketers around the world.
